How to play fantasy Congress
Politiparty is fantasy sports for the U.S. Congress. You pick a lineup of real senators and representatives each week, and they score points from the work they actually do on the Hill.
1. Make an account
Sign up with an email address and confirm it with the 6-digit code we send. Playing is free, and there is no money involved anywhere in the game.
2. Pick your lineup: 3 senators and 5 representatives
Every week you choose 8 members of Congress: 3 from the Senate and 5 from the House. Anyone can pick anyone, so you and a friend can both start the same senator. Browse every member's numbers on the Congress scorecard before you choose.
3. Name a captain
One of your 8 is your captain, and the captain scores 1.5 times their points for the week. It costs nothing, so put it on the member you expect to have the busiest week.
4. Lock in by Sunday night
Lineups lock at 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday, and the week runs Monday through Sunday. You pick a fresh lineup every week: there are no drafts, trades or waivers.
5. Score what they actually do
Your members earn points from the public record: introducing bills, cosponsoring, getting bills through committee and onto the floor, passing a chamber, becoming law, offering amendments, and showing up for roll-call votes. Missing a vote costs points, and voting against your own party earns a maverick bonus. The full point table is on How scoring works.
6. Climb the leaderboard
Everyone plays on one leaderboard. When a week settles, its podium, MVP and most-picked members go up on Results.
Frequently asked questions
What is fantasy Congress?
A fantasy sports game where the players are real members of the U.S. House and Senate. Instead of touchdowns and rebounds, they score from legislative work: bills, cosponsorships, amendments and votes.
Where do the points come from?
Official public data from Congress.gov and the House and Senate roll calls, updated every day. Every bill, vote and amendment that scored links back to its source, and every bill has its own page under Bills.
Does party or ideology matter?
No. Scoring counts what members do, never which side they are on. A Democrat and a Republican earn the same points for the same action.
Can members rack up points by introducing lots of bills?
Only up to a point. Each week only a member’s first 10 bill introductions and first 35 cosponsorships score, so volume alone cannot win a week. Outcomes like passing a chamber or becoming law are worth far more.
What happens when Congress is out?
A week with no scoring activity at all, such as a full recess, is a bye week for everyone. Any week with a vote, bill, cosponsorship or amendment is live.
Does it cost anything?
No. Politiparty is free, with no wagering and no prizes paid in money.
